Medifast® Weight Loss Program

When purchasing any weight loss product, it is important to do your research. Many people are exchanging their opinions about Medifast on DietBlogTalk.com

For an additional source, check out Medifast on the very popular Sensational.com

Overview

Medifast® joins the ranks of weight loss programs that run on pre-packaged foods and a revolution in dieting. Such programs often claim that their products are all a dieter will ever need. However, we’re skeptical of such claims, simply because they are not a long-term solution to eating healthy. Nevertheless, Medifast® has garnered approval from many medical people because its product line, which consists of a wide variety of food products, can be the jumpstart that many dieters need to get going toward a healthier lifestyle. This program is diabetes friendly, and with the epidemic of this disease in our country we certainly can’t and won’t discount the value of what they have to offer.

Program at a Glance

Medifast® promotes a “5&1 Plan” that consists of five pre-packaged food options and one “lean & green” meal per day.

Program in Focus

Medifast® meals are advertised as low-calorie, low-fat options that deliver protein and fiber. Dieters are directed to select five of these food options per day. From bars to shakes to pudding and even to scrambled eggs, dieters can create quite a variety of meal options on a given day.

And then, somewhere between these five meals, dieters are to consume one “lean & green” meal that consists of lean meat or fish and three servings of approved vegetables, such as greens, broccoli, eggplant, or tomatoes.

As Medifast® dieters progress, they may add on different snacks and even “flavor infusers,” but the overall methodology appears to remain the same. Medifast® also offers meal plans specifically formulated for men, women, and diabetics.

Positives

•    Variety of food options.

•    Diabetic options.

Negatives

•    Pre-packaged foods can become unappetizing.

•    May not be cost effective.

•    May leave dieter in the lurch when the foods lose their appeal.

Final Thoughts

Medifast® is an interesting weight loss concept – especially for dieters who don’t want to feel hungry while they’re trying to lose weight. And along with exercise and a stimulant-free fat burner, Medifast® might do some good. But over the long haul, consumers will have to think about learning to eat for themselves. In other words, pre-packaged plans like Medifast® are only so helpful, and then it’s up to the individual to take the reins and start living a healthy lifestyle. this is one program that just might be a good way to start on that journey.

How To Lose Weight Quickly – Weight Loss For Teens

How To Lose Weight Quickly? This is a common question for a teenager and if you are a teenager and you need to lose weight, normally you would want to lose weight instantly. Regrettably, there are actually no short cuts that you can apply to lose weight instantly. However, if you need to lose weight quickly, then this article will show you how to lose weight quickly and it is possible to do it. There are several methods that you can apply to lose weight quickly.

One of the methods that will make you lose weight fast is to boost your metabolism. How do you boost your metabolism? Exercising is the best way to do it. When you exercise, you raise your heart rate level and when this happen, you will burn calories and the more you burn, you will lose weight fast.

Another important factor that will help you lose weight is to eat more during the day. If you need to lose weight fast, then skipping your meals will not help at all. By skipping your meals or starving yourself, you are actually causing your metabolism to slow down and it system will switch to survival mode whereby it will conserve energy because no food or energy is coming in.

If you need to lose weight fast, you must increase your metabolism and develop a healthy and balanced diet. Eating 5 to 6 small meals daily and spreading them about 4 hours each instead of your regular 3 meals daily, will cause you to lose weight. This permits you to provide your body with foods throughout the day and will burn off your calories. Since you are eating more regularly, it is also important to watch your calorie intake.

Do not cut to much calories from your diet. If you cut your calories intake too much, you are almost certainly causing your hormones levels to loop, therefore forcing them to send a collective message to your body system that you do not have enough energy intake and with that, your body will shut down its weight loss systems. For general guidance, men generally should consume more than 1800 calories each day and women should consume more than 1500 calories each day.

To lose weight, follow this how to lose weight quickly tips and see improvement to your weight fast.

What time of day is best to work out to increase metabolism and burn calories?

i usually work out in the afternoon, around 5-6pm when i get done with work. i’ve thought about changing my work out time to before work but that means i would have to get up at 5am and i just cant bring myself to do it unless it might actually make a difference. i’m pretty sure that the time of day doesnt effect calories burnt, but i was wondering if hitting the gym early in the more will increase my metabolism more through out the day rather than the afternoon.

Supposedly working out in the morning helps increase metabolism, but those who say that also say it’s better to work out on an empty stomach, and that is simply not true. Those same people also say working out at night is bad because it speeds up your metabolism at night and makes you feel energized, thus not letting you sleep. There is really no time of the day that working out burns the most calories. Do whatever you feel is best for you. As long as you eat sensibly before and and after your workout and keep yourself hydrated, you should be fine.

The Basic Early Step for Weight Loss

So you just start thinking about going for a weight loss campaign, you read a lot, ask friend how to do it and enroll in closest gym. But do you know that if you do these you are forgetting the basic step for planning, I can guarantee you that you will miss these three basic important points:

1. Do you know what ideal weight you targeted? Most people would go like this “Okay I weight about 250lbs this month and I want to have 120lbs when the year ends”; you will see two problems when going with this. You will see that the weight that you have to lose is enormous like 130 lbs it would make you desperate before you begin, the second problem is even when you succeed in getting that 120lbs body you might not getting the ideal weight. Ideal weight is a proportion between your height, body, and weight.  You might need to ask expert on what is the ideal weight for you because everyone have their opinion on the ideal weight, if you too afraid to ask expert then ask your girlfriend or boyfriend about this.

2. Time management and commitment, so you want to lose weight and starting to make a schedule of your daily activities like going to the gym for one hour every day, or jogging every morning. Sure this is a good schedule if you think about it. But the common problem when scheduling your training is that people don’t think it through yet… the commitment for the exercise is low for most people when they are face with other importance such as family or job. If you want to make this to work then you need to have the importance of your exercise heightened. Time schedule must be think through is it the freest time I would have and there will be no disturbance when doing the exercise at that time.

3. Food calorie planning. Here a common people when starting to lose weight would say “I am on a diet so I would eat twice a day with a lot of drink only”, you see that losing weight is not about extremely cutting your calorie intake, sure it need to be lowered but don’t have to be extreme. If you plan to do this extreme diet then you are doing an unhealthy diet and also unbalance diet. The perfect balance for the calorie intake for you is for women you need about 2000-2500 calorie a day and for men you need 2500-3000 calorie intake a day, so be sure you plan your meal not to be lower or higher than this. I prefer that you go higher than lower cause higher can be balanced with exercise. If you have higher 500 calorie than average then go for exercise such as running for 4 mil, this should make you burn about 400 calorie.

Those three things are the common plan for people who want to lose weight but because of the commonest people usually forget how important these three things are.

Understand the Link Between Low Blood Sugar Levels and Weight Loss

Understanding weight loss and low blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia) is not complicated but it does require a little time and knowledge.

Your blood sugar needs to enter your cells from the bloodstream where it is used immediately or stored. But if your cells do not react to insulin, it cannot enter your cells. Then, it is stored as fat around the body – especially the waist in men.

It is the low blood sugar level or hypoglycemia that is the hidden connection to weight loss. This results in a sense of fatigue. The body then wants an instant source of energy which we think choclate or a fizzy drink will do the job.

What would cause the cells not to react to insulin (insulin resistance)? First up, would be the kind of foods and the diet you have. Refined foods such as pastry, white flour and also chocolates effect low blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia) and the release of insulin.

In addition, lifestyle. Work pressures, no exercise and burning the candle at both ends also cause insulin resistance. So, one of the first steps in gaining control of weight is to overcome the high and low (hypoglycemia) blood sugar levels of your body.

How is this done? What happens when you start dieting? It depends on the kind of food you take. Fats, proteins and carbohydrates create a slow supply of insulin and a slow rise in blood sugar levels.

But different carbohydrates, refined carbohydrates, such as bakery food, pastas and white bread, go through the digestion process far more quickly because they possess little fibre.

The result of eating a cookie is almost instant: blood sugar levels spike up and soon after collapse to low (hypoglycemia). Generally it is these ups and downs, which cause a strong desire for even more refined carbohydrates and a tendency to ignore dieting. Your insulin becomes out of control and soon fat is stored.

To introduce some balance to your diet at least 20-35gms of fibre a day needs to be consumed. This does two things – it removes cravings and controls weight.

In addition, a useful way of keeping low blood sugar levels normal so as to escape insulin spikes and reduce fat storing, is to increase your number of meals in your diet. No, this not an invitation to binge eat, but advice to reduce the size of your daily three meals and to eat 5-6 times a day.

George R. regularly slumped in the afternoon and needed a jolt of refined cakes or choclate. By carefully dividing his meals in half – and with conscious effort – he created 5 or 6 small meals of 250 – 300 calories.

And he kept the basics of mini meals at hand either at his desk or in his car. Having cottage cheese, nuts, two pieces of fruit and cheese nearby, he was able to keep the hunger pangs at bay and not go back to his old way of gorging on refined products.

Best of all as his levels got back into balance by knowledgeable dieting, his body stopped storing fat. His weight stabilized and then after a few months started dropping.

“Because I took these steps I reversed the onset of hypoglycemia and dangers of heart disease and diabetes” he said.

George found that by carefully looking into the causes of low blood sugar levels and weight loss and building on his new knowledge of dieting he was soon able to live a far more balanced happier life.

Hair Loss in Men And Women – Is It A Real Nightmare?

Male Hair loss generally refers to the male pattern baldness. It is medically referred as “Androgenic Alopecia”. Male hair loss affects a person at any time after puberty. The hair usually recedes the letter “M” and the crown hair becomes thinner as age advances. It is common in men and women. But a lot more men suffer from it than women.

For the male Propecia is a good product that should not be used by women. If a women is pregnant Propecia may injure the baby in the womb.

Propecia will also cause hair growth on parts of the body where women do not like to have hair (body, face)
Hence Propecia is not recommended for women. Men can be treated with propecia but with some side effects which include impotency and lack of sex drive. You should always consult your physician before taking this medicine.

In the early days, Rogaine was used to treat high blood pressure, but now it is primarily used to stop hair loss. Rogaine should be used continuously for three to four months to have some fruitful results.

The reason for men losing hair is mainly due to the levels of DHT (Dihydro testosterone) in the scalp. The DHT is present in a person immediately after his puberty and the purpose of DHT is to develop secondary sexual characteristics. DHT gets attached to the hair follicle and prevents the assimilation of nutrients to the follicles which in turn cause thinning out of hair and finally shedding of hair.

In order to prevent this problem there are many products available on the market. The most important igredient is saw palmetto. It is clearly evident that saw palmetto blocks DHTs and is a natural medication. A product called Hair Genesis consists of saw palmetto and is used extensively.

Hair energizer hair products by Ferm-T are also being used for treatment. Even women can use this product without any side effect. The Hair energizer helps to stop hair thinning and loss of hair. The Hair Energizer kit comes with a bottle of Follicle spray, 15 ml tube Jojoba oil, a bottle of shampoo, and 60 tablets of vitamins & minerals. Advecia, is another product that helps with this problem. It is essential for revitalizing the hair follicles which are deprived of nutrients.

In contrast generaly Women’s hair loss does not result in total loss as like that of men. It is still devastating.

The psychological impact on women is extensive when compared to men since women consider their hair as a vital part of their beauty and find it to be an important part of their outer appearance.

Heredity is a cause for this problem in women. Moreover the treatment of women is entirely different than that of men, because the medication offered for re-growth of hair may cause the growth in other parts of the body such as chest, back, and face. Most women don’t like facial hair growth.

Women suffering from hair loss need to consult a doctor to find out what the causes are. Once it has been ascertained, the physician will be able to prescribe the suitable medication. For women, many physicians prescribe estrogen to correct the condition.

Loss of hair in women can be treated with cucocorticoids. Topical application of Minoxodil or Anthralin is the only recommended treatment available for women. The initial stage can be treated well and the response to the treatment is also extremely good.

An important condition called Androgenic alopecia is found to be affecting about 2% of the population. This condition causes complete loss of hairfrom the whole body. In this category women’s treatment is found to be difficult to cure. Doctors may prescribe certain medicines to reduce the symptoms of androgenic alopecia.

Women who have just given birth to a child also suffer from hair loss very often. This is usually temporary and may stop within 6 months after birth. This is mainly due to the fact that there is a higher estrogen level during pregnancy, which might result in keeping the hair follicles in the growth phase. Immediately after childbirth, there is a sudden withdrawl of estrogen. Hair may grow again after 6 months, but applying hair tonic may hasten re-growth of hair.

Sometimes crash diets may lead to women losing hair and also rapid weight loss over a short period of time. In addition to this, emotional and physical stress may also result in hair loss. Immediately after the alleviation of the stress, the hair fallout will be stopped.

Frequent dyeing and chemicals e.g. Perming solutions used on hair may cause a problem. This happens when chemicals are used frequently. The hair begins to break off. Treatments, when applied on the scalp may strengthen the follicles.

Once you have identified the main cause of the loss, choose the right treatment at the right time to ensure better hair growth. In most serious cases of women’s hair loss, it is always advisable to seek the help of a dermatologist for complete diagnosis and
treatment plan.

Secrets of Effective Weight Loss

The battle of the bulge has become a serious health problem in most of the developed world. Not only do we struggle with how we look as we try to fit in our clothes, but we increase our risk of illnesses like diabetes and high blood pressure when we are overweight. We all know what we need to do. We need to eat less and exercise more. But is there more to it than that? What are some secrets of effective weight loss?

It’s true that eating less and exercising more will help people lose weight. The problem lies in knowing how much less to eat, how much more to exercise, and how in the world to stay motivated while doing it. If you restrict your eating too much, you can actually keep your body from releasing the fat, even if you’re exercising. This happens because your metabolism starts acting like you’re starving. To keep your metabolism moving, you need a healthy number of calories every day, such as at least 1200 for women and 1500 for men.

Your metabolism, the rate at which you burn calories, has a lot to do with whether or not you lose weight. You’ve seen people who can eat anything and never gain an ounce. This is because they have a fast, efficient metabolic system. Fortunately, it is possible for people who’ve never been able to lose to just happen to find the magic key for kick-starting their own sluggish metabolism into a fat burning power house.

What are some ways to increase your metabolism? Eating enough is one factor, especially if the food you eat includes lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, and lean protein foods. Eating too many refined carbohydrate foods, such as white bread or store bought cookies, can sabotage your efforts to speed up your metabolism.

Exercise is also essential to effective weight loss. There are four basic types of exercise, all of which contribute their own part to the overall health picture. Aerobic exercise, sometimes called “cardio,” is the main type that burns fat. It’s called cardio because it requires your heart rate to increase, and is good exercise to strengthen your cardiovascular system. Appropriate cardio exercise is maintained at an intensity level where you can talk, but not sing. If you are working out too hard to talk, you should slow down a bit.

The other types of exercise are weight training, stretching, and toning. To avoid injury, you should always do some stretching exercise after doing cardio sessions. Toning exercises are great for strengthening and streamlining those problem areas, like abs or thighs. Weight training is excellent for facilitating weight loss, because it causes the body to have a higher percentage of muscle tissue. Muscle burns calories at a much greater rate than fat does, so increasing your muscle mass helps your metabolism even when you are at rest.

Finally, drinking two quarts of water a day helps you lose weight more effectively, too. Make sure you spread this water out over the day. Some of it can be in the form of herb tea.

Speaking of herb tea, most pills and potions designed for weight loss are minimally effective at best. There is some scientific evidence that adding green tea to the diet can help people lose weight. If you’ll notice, virtually every diet pill comes with a diet to follow. The diets are all strangely similar – they all look like what you know you should be eating! So don’t expect miracles from weight loss supplements.
