Be Wary Of Herbal Diet Pills

These days, herbal diet pills are used as an alternative to proper diet and lots of exercise. This is a trend that I am beginning to worry about for many reasons.

First, almost anything can be a herbal diet pill. Most drugs have been derived from plants so the definition of herbs is murky. Nevertheless, according the FDA, they are not classified as drugs and so they do not undergo the strict standard tests that drugs go through but it is wise not to forget that they can be just as dangerous.

In fact, it is only a matter of time before the herbal pills are termed drugs. Usually this happens after the pills are on the market for awhile. If you look around on the internet you will see a number of sites selling their herbal pills and advertising their product with a message that may be interpreted as “buy it now before the FDA bans it”.

These pills usually end up being banned completely or available only through prescription. Nevertheless, you must remember that the FDA was set up for the interests of the public and it is questionable whether this type product is good for you if it uses messages like that.

I have had my encounter with herbal diet pills before. In college I took some pills that claimed to be natural, safe and “ephedra” free. It was not a good experience. I felt restless, I couldn’t eat for days and I had insomnia. All of those affects, in my opinion, cannot be good for the body. Later I found out that the FDA had banned the pills.

So don’t be misguided by the word “herbal” it doesn’t mean safe. If the FDA has approved it through their testing process it’s a much better choice. Unfortunately the words natural and herbal are being used these days to evoke the trust of consumers, don’t fall for it.

Discover the Missing Link: Why your Diet is Failing you

There is a missing link in why diets will often fail women. It is the mental diet you must have and re-programing your subconscious mind is the key to losing weight and more importantly keeping it off. If you learn how to program it the right way you will stop the vicious cycle of gaining weight or not being able to lose it.

The average person thinks 40,000-50,000 thoughts a day and most of them are negative. You get what you think about. If you think that you will always be broke then you will. The same thing applies to gaining weight or not being able to lose it! Your subconscious mind is so powerful that it remains on like a computer program running 24/7.

This means when you are sleeping whatever thoughts you have during the day they are programmed in your subconscious. Think about the dreams you have at night they are a direct reflection of your current mental state, so if you wake up in the middle of the night scared from a bad dream that means you are scared of something going on in your present life.

How does this work with weight loss?

First let’s look at why so many women have trouble either keeping weight off or losing weight. It simply starts with what they believe.

For example do find that you say these statements to yourself:

“I am too old to lose weight.”

“My whole family is overweight and it’s just in my genes.”

“It’s too hard.”

“Nothing ever works for me.”

“I can’t seem to motivate myself to eat better or workout.”

I’m sure you might have a few more to add to this list.

If you have these types of beliefs then it will be hard for you to lose weight or keep it off because you have essentially programmed your mind for failure.

So what can you do?

If you find your mind is programmed with these disempowering beliefs you can actually re-program it for ultimate success. Think again about your subconscious mind being a computer program and giving it a better program to run, rather than one that takes up too much space or has a lot of errors.

I want to share with you some powerful motivational tools that help re-program your mind for ultimate fat-loss success. Nutrition and exercise are very important. However, without the right mind set, permanent weight loss is impossible. You need to know how to change the internal dialogue or program in your mind in order to change the physical part. Trust me no diet will work if you don’t understand and apply these principles.

Here are some powerful ways to re-program your mind:

Start by putting yourself on a “mental diet”. Each time you find yourself saying something negative about your body, food, or exercise try turning that negative statement into a more positive one.

For example you might say “I hate this fat around my stomach” Instead say “My stomach is getting flatter”.

This sounds very simple yet it’s a very powerful way to start changing your beliefs and in turn change your body. Just for fun keep a log of how many times you do this and of course make sure you re-frame the negative statements into positive ones. After putting these powerful mental tools in place you will be amazed and think it’s magic because all of the sudden your weight seems to melt off your body and you will be happier than you have ever been.

1. Basal metabolic rate- When the body is at rest, it consumes 60% of the calories to maintain health to power the body to have thousands of chemical reactions for temperature, cell repair, cardiovascular systems etc. This rate is calculated when a person is at sleep for 24 hours 12 hours after the last meal taken ensuring that digestive system was inactive not burning calories for digesting food.

The Second Half Of The Atkins Diet

If you have personally experienced the Atkins diet or even read about the low-carbohydrate diet plan, you will know that the program contains several phases. These phases are designed to jump start the first time dieter’s fat-loss stage while identifying the individual’s natural carbohydrate intake limit in order to reach the desired level of weight loss. All of this takes place very quickly during the first two phases which last for a period of four weeks or longer depending on the individual and their body type. This article explains the second half of the regimen, the maintenance portion.

The first two phases take a person from the initial weight loss phase up to the point at which they determine how many carbohydrates that person can consume while still losing weight. On average, 40 to 60 grams of carbs are acceptable amount to ingest. Dr. Atkins calls Phase 3 the Pre-Maintenance phase. By this stage of the program a dieter is now more comfortable and more knowledable about the foods he or she can and cannot eat. During this stage the dieter can increase their carbohydrate consumption by 10 grams of net carbs a day each week, potentially up to 20 to 30 grams twice a week, as long as they are still losing weight. When the weight loss stops, the daily carb intake is decreased by up to 10 grams until weight loss resumes.

Phase 4, the final phase is the Lifetime Maintenance Phase. It is at this stage that a dieter has finally reached his or hera ideal weight and is able to eat a wider selection of food. Although at this point a person still needs to to be contientious about their carbohydrate consumption and maintain an active lifestyle, they should be able to ingest up to 100 grams of net carbs per day without weight gain.

By the time he or she has attained this final phase of the Atkins program, the dieter is finally in a position to know the exact number of carbohydrates he or she can have and exactly what kinds of other foods they can eat while continuing to maintain a steady weight while enjoying the benefits of healthy eating.

What foods can I eat to increase my metabolism?

I’m dieting and working out to lose weight for a vacation with some friends in one month, and I was just wondering what specific foods I could eat to increase my metabolism.

I’m not interested, however, in eating small meals throughout the day because (from my experiences with that plan) If you eat in intervals then you go to the bathroom in intervals… and i’m not interested in doing that every 3 hours =].

So what fruits, vegetables, even carbs should I be eating to increase my metabolism?

Remember the days when your metabolism was like a caffeinated mouse in a wheel? Yeah, me neither. If you are not’t one of those lucky gals who can eat whatever she wants and burn it off thanks to an annoyingly fast metabolism, look to these helpful foods to boost your metabolism.

Grapefruit
This diet super fruit (above) lowers the insulin levels in your body that trigger your system to store fat. Plus, it is rich in fiber, and your body must burn extra calories in order to break it down.

Green Tea
Green tea is the main source of epigallocatechin gallate, known better as EGCG. This healthy catechin speeds up your brain and nervous system, causing your body to burn more calories.

Yogurt
The high levels of protein present in natural yogurt require a lot of energy to be processed. Plus, the pro-biotic cultures found in yogurt help regulate your digestive tract.

Almonds
Almonds’ essential fatty acids help raise your body’s metabolism. Just don’t overdo it because they’re also very high in calories.

Coffee
Coffee has caffeine, which does give you a boost. Just ensure that you don’t exceed 2 or 3 cups a day, or you risk a host of side effects, including irritability and jitters.

Turkey
This protein-rich meat builds lean muscle tissue, which causes your body to burn extra calories and raises your metabolism.

Apples
Like grapefruit, this low-calorie snack is high in fiber, which your body must burn calories to break down. Plus, since apples help you stay full for longer, you’ll eat less.

Spinach
Popeye was right about one thing: spinach can help make you strong and healthy. In addition to speeding up your metabolism, it’s a great source of antioxidants, magnesium, potassium, iron and vitamin C.

Beans
Low in fat and packed with protein, beans keep you full for long durations, and your body must burn extra calories in order to process this fiber-rich food.

Jalapenos
The capcaisin found in jalapenos causes your body to burn extra calories for hours after you ingest them, speeding up both your heart rate and metabolism.

Broccoli
Broccoli contains a highly effective metabolism-boosting team of nutrients: calcium and vitamin C. Calcium acts as a metabolic trigger, while vitamin C helps your body absorb more calcium

Oatmeal
Because your body takes a long time to break down the fat-soluble fiber in oatmeal, this healthy food lowers your body’s insulin level and speeds up your metabolism as a result.

Soy Milk
Fortified soy milk is loaded with calcium, which helps boost your metabolism. Just stay away from the sweetened varieties.

Cinnamon
A little bit of cinnamon can go a long way. Add some zing to your daily cup of tea with this tasty spice to help your body metabolize sugars more effectively and maintain steadier blood sugar levels. Cinnamon can also help lower your cholesterol.

Curry
Like jalapenos, curry increases the amount of calories your body burns and speeds up your metabolism.
